The Randolph Roadrunners Volkssport Club, one of the local clubs affiliated with America's Walking Club, will hold a 5K and 10K walk on May 20 in the King William neighborhood and adjacent areas. After the walk, registrants will be given free admission to Maifest at the Beethoven Maanerchor
Maifest is a traditional German celebration of the arrival of Spring. The Beethoven Männerchor — a community here in San Antonio that is devoted to German heritage, culture and preservation — is the perfect place to enjoy this festive German event with authentic German music, food, and drinks.
The walk starts at the Mannerchor's Halle und Garten at 432 Pereida Street between 3:30 and 6 p.m., and walkers must finish by 9 p.m. The route winds around through the streets of King William and includes a short section of the Riverwalk. The 10K will also pass by the Commander's House, the H-E-B South Flores Market, loop around the county courthouse complex, and La Villita.
The Beethoven men's choir was founded in 1867 and originally performed in what is now the Magik Children's Theatre. It moved to the current location in 1920. The venue's website is https://www.southtownbeethoven.com/ and more details on the Mannerchor's history is available at https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/beethoven-mannerchor.
Andy Thomas is the Deputy Director of the American Volkssport Association
